The Nigerian Army has announced a three-day mourning period to pay tribute to the over 17 soldiers who died in an attack in Kwana Dutse Local Government Area of Niger State.
Reports indicate that the attack is a recent incident that has shocked the nation, where gunmen carried out a coordinated assault on military bases in Niger and Kaduna states, resulting in the deaths of the soldiers.
In a statement shared on the army’s official website and social media platform X on Friday, the Nigerian Army stated that “the mourning period will run from June 25 to 27, 2025, as a mark of respect and gratitude to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation.”
The Nigerian Army’s statement also confirmed the deaths of soldiers following attacks by gunmen on military bases in Niger and Kaduna states.
“During this period, all military institutions and personnel across the country will fly the Nigerian Army flag at half-mast,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army instructed all its personnel to observe the mourning period in order to honour the fallen soldiers, as this move reflects the value the army places on the lives of its personnel.
The army also extended its condolences to the families and friends of the deceased soldiers.
Additionally, the statement highlighted the army’s dedication to remembering its personnel who paid the ultimate price.
The mourning period offers a moment for the country to reflect on the sacrifices made by soldiers in defending the nation. It serves as a solemn reminder of the significance of national security and the military’s role in safeguarding the country.
