BREAKING: Ijegun Residents Cry Out After NEPA Officials Allegedly Attempt To Kill Filmmaker During Light Disconnection

Residents of Ijegun, a community in Lagos, are expressing serious concern following an incident that reportedly happened in the early hours of March 10, 2026, on Lafunke Street.

According to people living in the area, individuals believed to be electricity workers attached to Ikeja Electricity and responsible for electricity operations in Ijegun arrived on the street in the morning with a vehicle bearing number ( KRD-999XR Lagos ) to disconnect power supply to a compound.

Residents say the disconnection was carried out without prior notice to the occupants of the building, which quickly led to questions and complaints from tenants.

Witnesses say that as the officials were leaving the area in their vehicle, a confrontation occurred with one of the tenants, a filmmaker identified as Mr Giwa. According to accounts shared by residents, Mr Giwa tried to question the workers Mr Kelvin and Colleagues about the sudden disconnection and the absence of any notification.

People who said they witnessed the incident stated that as the vehicle began to move away, Mr Giwa was allegedly pushed out of the moving vehicle. Residents say the situation became even more frightening when the vehicle reportedly sped off while he was still close to it, nearly running him over.

The incident is said to have left the young filmmaker with serious injuries, causing anger and concern among residents of the compound and nearby houses.

Some tenants in the compound who are said to have affiliations with higher levels of government are reportedly making moves to take the matter up through officially.

Residents say efforts are already underway to ensure the case receives attention from the appropriate authorities and that the incident is fully investigated.

Community members are now calling for the matter to be properly examined. Many residents believe that issues related to electricity disconnection should be handled with clear communication and without violence.

As of the time of writing, there has been no official statement from Ikeja Electricity regarding the incident. However, residents are urging authorities and the electricity distribution company to look into the matter and ensure accountability and justice.

The situation has once again drawn attention to the ongoing tensions between electricity distribution officials and residents in several parts of Lagos, where disagreements over power supply, billing, and disconnections sometimes result in heated confrontations.

Residents are also demanding proper accountability and transparency in all as it’s alleged that the NEPA officials on 9th March spoke with the house caretaker before the incident while the house caretaker and management told the occupants nothing, sighting negligence and dishonesty.
