Billionaire mogul Oskar Ibru dies at 67

Business magnate and chairman of the Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oskar Ibru, has passed away at the age of 67.

According to a statement released by his family and reported by Arise News on Wednesday, Ibru died after a brief illness.

No further details about the circumstances of his death were provided.

A major figure in Nigeria’s corporate sector, Ibru was among the most notable heirs of the Ibru dynasty.

He played a crucial role in maintaining and growing the conglomerate founded by his late father, Olorogun Michael Ibru, whose business empire spanned shipping, oil and gas, real estate, and commerce.

His death comes less than ten years after the family patriarch, Michael Ibru, passed away in 2016.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in due course.

Reacting to the news on Wednesday, media executive and Ovation International publisher, Dele Momodu, described Ibru as “an extremely friendly gentleman and a socialite per excellence.”

On his Instagram page, Momodu wrote, “News has just reached me in the skies that one of Nigeria’s most recognisable businessmen, OLORUNGUN OSKAR IBRU, has passed on… He was an extremely friendly gentleman, and a socialite per excellence, who was loved so passionately by families and friends… He was the son of the business Titan, OLOROGUN MICHAEL IBRU… Rest in peace, dear Brother…”
