Lagos LG Polls Not Up for Discredit, APC Warns Opposition

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has called on opposition parties to desist from ongoing efforts to undermine the credibility of Saturday’s Local Government elections.

This appeal was made by the APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Seye Oladejo, in a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos, in reaction to demands by opposition groups for the cancellation of the polls over alleged irregularities.

“The Lagos State APC has observed with concern the groundless and poorly thought-out attempts by certain opposition elements to cast doubt on the recently concluded local government elections.

“These efforts, filled with misleading narratives, exaggerations and outright lies, do not just undermine our democratic values but also show disrespect to the people of Lagos who turned out for a peaceful, transparent, and legitimate election.

“It is crucial to point out that the elections were carried out in strict adherence to all legal and procedural standards, overseen by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and monitored by civil society groups and key stakeholders.

“The results of the election are a true reflection of the people’s choice and further confirm their trust in the ruling party’s history of effective governance and service,” Oladejo stated.

He added that the party firmly rejects what he described as unfounded allegations of electoral misconduct being spread by the opposition, whose actions appear more motivated by political frustration than any genuine democratic principle.

According to him, Lagosians will not fall for tactics employed by politicians who choose drama over constructive engagement with the voters.

He said: “The people of Lagos have made their decision at the ballot box, and that choice must be upheld.

“We encourage the opposition to behave responsibly and seek redress through appropriate legal procedures instead of launching public smear attacks aimed at weakening democratic institutions.”

Oladejo emphasized that the ruling party remains dedicated to deepening democracy, respecting the rule of law, and delivering on the trust freely given by the electorate.

“We urge all concerned parties to put Lagos first before political interests and collaborate for the ongoing development and stability of our state,” the APC spokesperson concluded.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the APC emerged victorious in all 57 chairmanship contests and secured 375 out of 376 councillorship positions across Lagos State in Saturday’s Local Government elections.
