President Donald Trump will attend Club World Cup final

President Donald Trump of the United States has confirmed he will be present at Sunday’s FIFA Club World Cup final, which is set to take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

The announcement follows FIFA’s recent move to establish a new office at Trump Tower in New York, signaling a stronger U.S. footprint for the global football body.

The United States is currently hosting the debut edition of the expanded Club World Cup and is also preparing to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada.

The final clash will feature Chelsea against either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid, at the same venue chosen for the 2026 World Cup final.

Trump, who earlier in the year attended the Super Bowl, is leading a White House taskforce dedicated to overseeing the country’s readiness for both tournaments.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino expressed gratitude to the U.S. government, saying:

“We have received such a big support from the government and from the president with the White House taskforce for the FIFA Club World Cup and for the FIFA World Cup next year.”

He continued, “FIFA is a global organisation and to be global you have to be local, you have to be everywhere, so we have to be in New York.”

FIFA already operates from Miami, and its decision to expand into Trump Tower is seen as a strategic move to deepen collaboration with U.S. authorities.

Despite ongoing debates about Trump’s immigration stance and the existing travel ban affecting 12 nations, Infantino gave his assurance to fans worldwide, “FIFA is a global organisation and to be global you have to be local… fans will be welcomed to the U.S.”

Reports suggest that Trump may be planning to broaden the travel ban to include up to 36 more countries.

Trump’s second term has seen increased involvement with the sporting scene.

He was the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl and disclosed in May that Washington D.C. will be the host city for the 2027 NFL Draft.

He has also been present at several UFC events, including one in New Jersey last month, and has announced that the White House will organize a UFC event in the near future.
